the classic mags recomend the column type, with the added bonus of being cheaper! I've got vac gauges I made up myself and having seen both used I think I'd go fo the colu mns, less problems with the damping.

guys
whilst on the subject of wheels, went to my local breaker today to see if I could get a wider back wheel. I found what looked like cbx wheel but it was marked up as 18 x 2.50 whereas my bike has a 18 x 2.15 rear the same as the front, did the wheel size alter with year ? at the moment I'm running an 18 x 110/90 on the "small" rear wheel. Anybody got an answer, and what's the widest tyre I could fit to a 2.50 wheel?
Dave

Hi guys
my 550 has got Metzelers at the moment
on the front a ME33 100/90 on the rear a ME1 120/80.
Unfortunaley they are expensive NZ$250 and NZ$300 each but they are very sticky, but considering the amount of road miles I have done in the past year wear has not been a factor. they are good on the race track...
as soon as my cam chain and tensioner arrive it will be back on the road/track again.
have fun Mike T

Does anyone know if it is possible to fit a different front end (ie forks ,front wheel ,disc etc )to a cbx550 from another model of bike.I heard that they used to fit a front end from another bike but the person who told me wasnt sure if it was the vf500.Thanks yasuda for a great web site.

Hi CBXers,

Am looking for advice/suggestions as to tyre fitments for CBX550. My current rather bald Dunlop K181's are great tyres, but I am told the standard sizes (90/90-18 and 110/80-18)for the CBX are now discontinued.

Similar story from Metzeler (I emailed them for alternative suggestions but they wouldnt give alternative fitments as they only recommend combinations they have tested)

Avon Roadrunners are available still, but I have read some adverse comments on these pages.

Presently the only other tyres I can find with the correct sizes are Bridgestone BT45's but these are very expensive and I dont know anything about them.

Has anyone tried these or any other tyre profiles/sizes or got alternative suggestions??

Hello out there. I have a 550 with 45,000 kms and the cam chain is rattling away. I know one solution is to replace the tensioner but has anyone found a cure to this weakness?
Will the stock replacement tensioner require early replacement again?

Is the spring too weak or is the locking mechanism the problem with these bikes?

Thanks

Dear Ian, (from UK?)
I think you can get some parts from Honda, bushes, bolts and small link rods. But mono shock unit itself are solded out even in Japan.
I recommend to search good repair shop in your local area.
Thanks and have a nice run!
Yasu.

I have a very nearly standard CBX 550 F2. 1982 (Y) model.

It has been left under a cover but outside for around 4 years now and I'm thinking of resurrecting it.

Any assistance with finding parts woould be helpful, especially front/rear suspension bits. It will definitely need a new monoshock, linkage bushes, etc.

hi rich.
best bet is to keep trying the breakers. i had to pinch both mirrors off my donor bike, cos the berk who had it b4 me had fitted mirrors to the handle-bar mounts. (on an f2......what a twat!!!) The spares section in MCN might be worth keeping an eye on...and dont forget the autojumbles!
By the way anyone noticed how the clocks seem to crack!!
any ideas on how to cure this.....?
PPS. Hoggy, how the hell did you manage to blow up a honda like that, did you remember to check the oil!!!!!!!??????

Rob,
My service manual (issued by Honda) says you must measure from/to CENTER of sprockets. I think the Haynes manual is wrong.

I removed my cam timing chain because of a rattling noise. The cam chain tensioner looks fine. The Haynes manual says the chain should measure 11.8"(300mm) when measured with the cam gears installed to the cutouts in the cam gears. My chain measured almost 13" (330mm)!
I can't believe that the chain stretched that much. Is the manual wrong or is the chain stretched that much?

glad you find the tyres o.k. I didn't really have a problem with them in the wet, but I couldn't get the rear right, at the correct pressure it squirmed when cornering and increasing the pressure caused it to hop. I thought it was the bike but then a friends yamaha did the same.( have a heart us volvo drivers have feelings too!)

just got my F2 t&t and spent a great weekend thrashing it round. By the way Dave the Avons have been OK so far! (in the dry!!...will let you know about wet handling)
If your reading this mike, what do you mean by tatty? (be honest!) what bits are missing? and what do you REALLY want for the bike? and what colour?
By the way....nice e-mail Korn. Know just what you mean...
those volvo drivers in Budapest are just bitchin!!
